About Us
Four by Four Bhangra Group was established in 1994 with the aim of promoting bhangra the folk dance from the Punjab in Northern India and to work with young people through the arts around the county of Kent. Since its inception the group has gone from strength to strength performing at community events and festivals around the UK and Europe, and working with thousands of young people either through workshops or through regular sessions through the successful Four by Four Youth Club.
Four by Four was established by Gurdish Sall, Marni Dhinsa, Suki Randhawa and Sunny Sandher who were the 4 original dancers and Billy Sandher who was the original dhol player. The founder members had previously performed with Jugnu Bhangra to much acclaim, Marni, Gurdish and Sunny between 1985 and 1994 and Suki and Billy between 1989 and 1994.
From an initial membership of 4 dancers the group has flourished and is recognised as one of the leading lights on the bhangra dance scene. The group is recognised not just for its performances but also its hard work in the local community working alongside other community partners and faith groups to promote positive community relations around Kent. Its positive work with young people between the ages of 12-18 at its regular youth club sessions has won much acclaim from parents, service users and partners. The group also work with local partners to deliver free community events where arts from around the world are celebrated and positive community relations promoted.
Corporate Events
Four by Four have much experience of performing at corporate events having performed at various stages for many of the top Blue Chip Companies based in the UK as well as helping to organise and facilitate team away day sessions around team building and teaching people new skills.
Education Workshops
Four by Four are much in demand to deliver bhangra dance and dhol drumming workshops around the South East and create bespoke workshops depending on the needs of the educational establishment that we are working with. We can deliver from a half day session to a residency culminating in a performance at a community event. Costumes and instruments can also be supplied.
Festivals
Four by Four have performed at festivals both abroad and across the UK. The group can do everything from a straight performance to dance and drumming workshops to delivering workshops around how to put on the traditional bhangra outfit and to provide an oral history of bhangra dancing, its origins on the sub-continent to how it has evolved to now. Our strength at festivals is about getting the audience involved in our performances from the start.

Biography
The colossus power house vocalist that is Ravi Josan.

Ravi Josan brings to life his own unique sound fusing traditional folk singing with modern urban beats.

Ravi Josan was born in Sinrialwala Punjab, and from a very young age had a passion for singing. Listening to folk songs from artists such as the late Ustaad Kuldeep Manak, Surinder Shinda, Chamkila and Mohammad Siddique amongst others a passion inside him was ignited and one that he had to follow.

Spurred on by his willingness to learn the ancient art of Punjabi folk singing, a family friend took him to meet the late Ustaad Kuldeep Manak. He was so impressed with his raw vocal talent that he agreed to take him under his guidance. This was a dream come true for Ravi as he would be able to learn from somebody he had idolised from a very young age.

While studying for his Bachelor in arts and M.A in History he would also go to Ustaad Ji’s house and practise daily. There he was taught how to nurture his raw voice as well as learning about kaliyan a genre of Punjabi folk songs. His natural ability to learn impressed Ustaad Ji so much that he would take him to shows, where he was able to establish recognition alongside Ustaad Ji’s son Yudhvir Manak. Over the next 5 years he performed many times with Ustaad Ji and Yudhvir Manak at the same time forming a fan base of his own which saw him perform many solo shows all over India.\

After finishing his education in India he was given an opportunity to carry on his higher education in the United Kingdom , friends and family persuaded him to put his singing career on hold for a while so he could pursue his education. Whilst in the United Kingdom he saw an advert for a singing competition on the renowned music channel Brit Asia. His desire to sing could not be contained anymore and he entered the competition.

The Brit Asia Superstar competition was highly competitive and was watched by thousands of viewers each week. All the training he had attained from Ustaad Ji came to play a pivotal role in this competition and he secured a place in the finals of this competition. The Finals were to be judged by highly acclaimed names from the Bhangra music industry, his performance on the night was the combination of his determination and tutoring and was flawless. One of the judges Channi Singh From Alaap said “I felt as if Ustaad Kuldeep Manak Ji was performing in front of me” a compliment that was well received.

Ravi Josan was crowned Brit Asia Superstar winner by the judges and the public vote were unanimous in his victory. Since then he has carried on with his studies as well as releasing a single on the Movie box label produced by the famous production house Sound pipe. This single had a massive response from the public and he is constantly being asked when new material will be released.

With new projects on the horizons in 2012 this musical journey looks to continue............
